Even though Superman Returns did not perform as well as people had expected, this does still not mean, luckily, that the franchise is dead again. Bryan Singer himself seems quite confident that there will be a new Superman movie with him at the helm, as he told Empire magazine.
"We haven't concluded a deal," but if a sequel gets a green light from Warner Bros, "the intention is to do it for [release in] 2009. Now that the character is established, I'd like to take the opportunity to bring in a more threatening element, a more terrible, foreboding element." I sure hope Singer gets his chance, because in my opinion Superman Returns is one of the best superhero movies ever, and also definitely one of the best movies of the year.
